For those of you who are unfamiliar with Eco Fairs (or Eco Fun Fair if you live in Minnesota, everything is just better in the “nice” state) they are annual community events where residents learn about environmental issues and solutions right in their area. All great information, kumbaya and lets go hug a tree, etc, etc. . . .but this is the Diary of a Cheap Man newsletter so I am going to talk about how we can save money.

My '01 VW Jetta has been my companion for many, many miles, as you can see. The Jetta came to our family in the spring of 2004 with 13,000 miles. Since then, I have personally driven her for almost all the miles you see here. Besides changing the oil and other routine maintenance, there has only been one major breakdown ($600).
Every time we arrive at our destination, I pat her on the steering wheel and say "good job, we did it again." Why buy a new car when your current vehicle is reliable?
